Head and Neck Cancer

The King’s Health Partners Head and Neck Cancer Biobank was established in 2010 to collect tissue and blood samples from patients treated by the Head and Neck Cancer team at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust.

Head and neck cancer is the sixth most common cancer globally, with around 12,000 people diagnosed in the UK each year.

Samples are gathered from various sites across the head and neck region, including the oral and nasal cavities, throat, salivary glands, thyroid, lymph nodes, and skin.

The primary aim of the Head and Neck Cancer Biobank is to provide researchers with tissue, blood, saliva, and related derivatives, alongside clinicopathological data, patient demographics, clinical details, and follow-up information. This resource enables a better understanding of head and neck diseases, particularly cancer, and supports the development of new treatments.

Applications to access the biobank’s samples or data are accepted from investigators in both academic and commercial sectors.

Academic Lead: Dr Ann Sandison

Application Co-ordinator: Dr Cheryl Gillett
